Volunteer Opportunities

Share in the experience! Our volunteers are a vital part of the magic of Tracy Aviary. While the Aviary certainly benefits from the time, energies, and talents of our volunteers, they in turn enjoy hands-on experiences, meet others with similar interests, and help support one of only two public aviaries in the nation.

Investigate the types of volunteer positions available and choose one that's right for you. You need only complete a volunteer application to get started. Please email completed and signed applications to volunteers@tracyaviary.org or mail to:

Upon submission of your application, we will contact you to discuss your application and opportunities that interest you.

We are currently recruiting for the following volunteer opportunities:

Education

Biofacts Cart / Site Interpreter and Bird Show Usher
Enjoy a dynamic volunteer shift during which you'll interact with the public. Use artifacts to teach visitors more about birds via the Biofacts Cart, provide a fuller experience for your audience at popular exhibit areas by answering questions and providing more information, and usher our engaging bird shows.  Volunteers must first attend a training.

Aviculture

Bird Observer
Any time one of our birds' routines changes or a change in behavior has been noted, it becomes necessary to observe to learn more about the situation. In order to gain valuable knowledge about our birds, we need volunteer assistance! Volunteers will be trained in observation techniques and protocol and will work closely with a keeper. Time slots are available Monday-Friday from 9:00 a.m. - noon. Volunteers must first attend a training.

Bird Enrichment Assistant
Enrichment involves improving or enhancing our birds' environments in order to draw out species-appropriate behaviors. As a volunteer you will be trained to research, identify, and create suitable enrichment for our birds. As a follow-up, you will be trained to observe for any changes in behavior. Time slots are available Monday-Thursday from 1:00-3:00. Volunteers must first attend a training.

Horticulture

The Botanical Enrichment Team
The Botanical Enrichment Team cares for the landscape here at the Aviary. Work with other avid gardeners to beautify this park.  The group meets every Sunday morning and an additional Monday evening group, 5:00-8:00 p.m.
