Tracy Aviary Spring Break Camps

April 14 to April 18, 2014
Before and After Care Programs Available

Each camp welcomes children in 1st through 4th grade and runs one full day from 9am to 4pm. Our camps explore different springtime themes through crafts, games, activities, and most importantly nose-to-beak experiences with Tracy Aviary’s feathered friends. Your child will experience an exciting day investigating birds and the natural world, and because each day is different, you are free to choose the camps that appeal to you and your child’s interests. Our Spring Break Camps are sure to engage and entertain your child as they learn about the wondrous world around us.

Camp Menu

Fantastic Fledglings and Delightful Displays- Monday, April 14, 9am-4pm

Dancing, constructing, flying, creating families—Spring is a busy time for birds, and in this day-long camp we will get busy right along with them, exploring the secret journeys they take to impress, create, protect, and travel with their partners and chicks! Campers will invent their own bird-like dances, build their own nests, and design their own wings to help them soar through a day of discovery and fun at Tracy Aviary.

High Flying Colors- Tuesday, April 15, 9am-4pm

Join us this spring as we search for the blue of a robin’s egg, the red of a house finch, and the rainbow of a toucan’s beak in this brand-new, arts-and-crafts focused camp. We will explore what color really means for birds by playing with it ourselves through creative crafts, yummy snacks, and new friends, human and feathered alike. Don’t miss it!

Native Neighbors- Wednesday, April 16, 9am-4pm

Spring is a time for new beginnings, from bright blossoms to chirping chicks. Come learn how to attract new friends to your backyard and how to tell what they are once you see them! In this camp we will make bird feeders, play exciting games, and discover birds at Tracy Aviary that are Utah natives. With your help, your favorite feathered neighbors will get back into the spring swing of things after a long winter.

Break Out of Your Shell- Thursday, April 17, 9am-4pm

Spring is all about eggs with their spots, dots, flecks, and specks! Join us as we check out how birds raise their chicks from eggs to fledglings leaving the nest. We’ll observe real, live bird parents in action and get to test our own egg-tending skills with games, discoveries, adventures, and up-close encounters with new bird friends.

A Mess of Nests- Friday, April 18, 9am-4pm

They weave, they burrow, they collect, they construct. From fashioning with feathers to molding with mud, birds are skilled artists at creating a safe haven for their little ones. Join us as we study the nests of our Aviary residents and then build our own creations, both bird and kid-sized! What would you use to build your nest?
