Construction progress

Monday, January 4th, 2010

If you’ve driven by Liberty Park recently, you’ve probably noticed that there is quite a bit of construction work happening at Tracy Aviary.  Don’t let this deter you from paying us a visit.  The Aviary is open for business, and it’s a great time to see our birds while also sneaking a peek at all the changes that are underway.  Looking out my office window, I can honestly say that there are few places that are prettier or more peaceful than the Aviary on a snowy winter day.

Most of our current construction work is being funded by a bond that passed in 2008, thanks to the overwhelming support of voters in Salt Lake County.  Our birds are already enjoying the benefits.  Earlier this month, we opened the Kennecott Wetlands Immersion Experience Holding Building, which provides much-needed holding space for our waterfowl and other birds during the winter months.  The renovation of the Wilson Pavilion is making good progress, and our new southern ground hornbills exhibit will open in January.

Watch this blog for more information about these projects and many other exciting changes that are taking shape at Tracy Aviary.  In the meantime, we’ll hope to see you around the pelican pond sometime soon.
