The revitalized South American Pavilion is almost here! Construction is complete, landscaping is done, and everything looks great. We are now carefully moving our spectacular tropical birds into their new home. They need a couple of weeks to get accustomed to their new surroundings, but the grand opening is just around the corner – Saturday, June 19 at noon.

April 14th, 2010
The last few weeks at Tracy Aviary have been extremely exciting, because one of our most popular groups of birds – our family group of Southern Ground Hornbills – moved into a fantastic new exhibit.
The Hornbills’ new home features beautiful landscaping and a new, top-notch indoor space for the birds to take shelter during the cold winter months. And visitors can watch these dynamic and charismatic birds explore their new terrain from an African-style hut, which will provide shade in the summer and shelter from rain and snow when the weather is less than perfect.
With new exhibit complete, the Aviary is now focusing on demolishing the hornbills’ old holding building, which has been a longstanding point of dissatisfaction for the Aviary staff. Be sure to watch this blog for more information on that project. In the meantime, come visit the new Southern Ground Hornbills exhibit. It’s a great example of our vision for the future of Tracy Aviary.
Update: Wilson Pavilion
February 26th, 2010At the Wilson Pavilion in the Aviary’s southeast corner, our renovation has made major progress during the last few weeks. The new exterior aviaries are really taking shape. With the placement of the large metal “goalposts” around the Pavilion, it’s now possible to see just how spacious and dramatic these exhibits are going to be.
Equally exciting, the interior spaces of the Pavilion are starting to come together. When the renovation is complete, Aviary visitors will be able to enter the Pavilion for the first time ever. Inside, visitors will find the first indoor exhibits in the Aviary’s history! With its colorful South American birds and lush tropical foliage, the Wilson Pavilion should be a great spot to visit on a cold winter day. Watch this blog for more information on the Pavilion’s grand opening, coming in a few months!
