Join Tracy Aviary’s bird experts for an Avian Adventure during our week-long, half-day summer camps for children going into Kindergarten through 5th grade. Half-day camps can be transformed into full-day adventures by enrolling in both AM and PM sessions. Each camp has a different theme, but all are packed with bird-related crafts, games, activities, and most importantly nose-to-beak experiences with Tracy Aviary’s feathered friends, providing your child with an exciting day investigating birds and the natural world.

Grades Kindergarten and First
Treetops and Tropics- FULL
June 10th – June 14th
9am-12pm
The tropics may be far away, but campers can meet some of these habitats’ most amazing birds right here at Tracy Aviary! In this camp, we will use our imaginations to uncover the mysteries of the world’s most diverse habitat—the rainforest—while visiting our collection of colorful birds from all over the world. Bright paint, sparkling glitter, and energetic games will dominate the week as we explore this magical environment.
Can’t Beat a Beak
FIRST OFFERING: June 10th – June 14th, 1pm-4pm- FULL
SECOND OFFERING: July 1st-5th, 9am-12pm (New session open, spaces available!)
All birds have and use them, and when you’re aching for a treat, you just can’t beat a beak! Each day we will learn about the different kinds of foods birds eat, and the amazing beaks they use to find, capture, and devour their delicious grub. Through games, explorations, and of course getting to know some of Tracy Aviary’s finest birds, we’ll have beak-fuls of fun!
Rainbow of Feathers- FULL
July 8th – July 12th
9am – 12pm
Paints, crayons, clay, and markers—creativity in art is our focus this week as we learn about the different colors of birds and how each color aids their survival. We will explore a different part of the rainbow each day and search out the birds that wear it, exploring our spectrum of Tracy Aviary species through art projects, games, and close-up encounters with brilliant birds along the way.
Fast as a Falcon- FULL
July 8th – July 12th
1pm – 4pm
This week we are soaring with some of the fastest, most majestic birds in the world! In this camp, your child will get an insider’s look at what makes raptors and vultures such talented hunters and fliers. Each day we will explore the world of hawks, eagles, owls, falcons, and vultures through creative crafts, sweet songs, close encounters, and high-flying games.

Home is Where the Habitat Is
Partner Camp with Wasatch Community Gardens
August 5th-9th
9am – 4pm (Full Day Camp)
Members: $230 Non-Members: $260
A healthy place to call home is a need all creatures share, and while some birds can have several homes that are long distances apart, plants, on the other hand, put down roots and spend their entire lives in one spot. Join Tracy Aviary and Wasatch Community Gardens as we spend a fun-filled week chasing clues, meeting new friends, and taking a closer look at the places we call “home.” This camp will be held at Wasatch Community Gardens in the morning, and Tracy Aviary in the afternoon.

Talented Talons
June 17th-21st
9am – 12pm
Birds have inspired artists for centuries and now it’s your turn! Creativity will soar during this week of exploring the beauty of birds in art and culture at Tracy Aviary. Campers will meet birds of all colors, shapes, and sizes while creating paintings, nest sculptures, musical murals, and more. Each day we will focus on a different type of bird-inspired art, allowing your camper to stretch their wings while trying old and new things.
Wet and Wild Waterfowl
June 17th-21st
1pm – 4pm
Campers will make a splash this week as we explore the wet and wild worlds of swans, ducks, geese, and more! This camp introduces campers to our feathered friends who love the water. We will cool off while the weather gets hot, toss fish to our flock of pelicans, race like a duckling, and fold paper into beautiful swans… let your child jump into this week of camp, the water’s fine!
Bird Bravery and Friendship
July 15th-19th
9am – 12pm
This week, caring and boldness reign supreme as we explore the lives of birds that are helpful and courageous in many ways…and how we can be as well! Campers will discover how to be a great friend while making new ones, human and avian alike, and how to care for nature as well. Allow your child to experience firsthand the ways that birds help the environment, overcome obstacles, stand out in a crowd, and work with others to succeed, and then put these skills into practice as we create, share, and play together at Tracy Aviary.
Feathered Fliers and Floaters
July 15th-19th
1pm – 4pm
Birds may all have wings, but they don’t just fly to get around! This week in camp, we’ll discover the different ways birds travel and why, from running and hopping to flying, swimming, and diving. We will explore how the diversity of birds relates to lifestyle and habitat during a week of nose-to-beak encounters with live birds and plenty of fun and games.
Dinosaurs Past and Present- FULL
Partner Camp with Natural History Museum of Utah
July 22nd, 23rd, 25th, 26th (M,T,Th,F)
8:30am – 4:30pm (Full Day Camp)

Join us as we investigate the theory that modern day birds and dinosaurs may, in fact, be related! Campers will begin their mornings at the Tracy Aviary, exploring what makes a bird a bird and the adaptations that allow them to live in such diverse environments across the globe. At the Natural History Museum of Utah, you’ll delve into the science of paleontology from the field to the lab. Campers will meet and interact with Museum staff and volunteers who prepare and study fossils while investigating the possible links between dinosaurs and birds. Drop campers off at Tracy Aviary by 8:30am and pick them up at UMNH by 4:30pm. A transportation fee of $24 is included.

Artsy Avian Abodes
Partner Camp with Bad Dog Arts
August 5th-9th
9am-4pm (Full Day Camp)

Spend a week with Tracy Aviary and Bad Dog Arts exploring Utah’s amazing habitats and the birds that call them home, as an artist, naturalist, and adventurer! Each morning campers will investigate a different kind of Utah habitat and the incredible birds that live there with Tracy Aviary’s expert bird nerds. Then, in the afternoon, campers will unleash their creativity with artists from Bad Dog and make art projects inspired by their new-found knowledge. This full-day camp is held on-site at Tracy Aviary.

Famous Feathers- FULL
June 24th-28th
9am – 12pm
This week we’re absorbing bird culture through origami, dance, fine art, and story-telling, all inspired by up-close encounters with some of our famous feathered stars of Tracy Aviary. Campers will discover how birds have influenced our culture throughout human history. From Harry Potter’s Hedwig to Phoenix the mythical firebird, we will uncover the magic and mystery behind birds that may even live right in our own back yards!
Nasty Nature
June 24th-28th
1pm – 4pm
Gooey grubs, saliva mud nests, vulture vomit—some may say “Yuck!” but we say “Awesome!” Allow your child to join us for a fascinating week of bird grossology as we explore some of the less refined habits of the bird world, and discover what remarkable survivals strategies they are. Campers will dissect owl pellets, get an up-close look at mud nests, and meet birds up close and personal to get to the bottom of what’s so important about all of this ick.

Avian Explorers- FULL

This summer, your child can spend a week discovering what it takes to be a bird professional. From ornithologists studying wild birds to talented trainers and keepers at Tracy Aviary, campers will experience first-hand what it means to be a bird expert. This unique camp runs a full day and offers campers the chance to learn how to be avid birders, conduct ornithological experiments, participate behind-the-scenes with our keepers, and even make a program for parents with our talented Bird Show Stars. They may come as a camper, but they’ll leave an expert!

Fantastic Flying Machines

Join The McGillis School and Tracy Aviary for an exciting camp that combines classroom instruction and hands-on projects. Using STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math) activities, students will understand the basics of flight, including fluid mechanics, laws of motion, and control of flight, as well as adaptations of birds, the diversity of their habitats, and effects of toxins in ecosystems. Students will learn theory, design, and construction, all while exploring the world of birds at the Tracy Aviary and surrounding areas. This camp will be held at Tracy Aviary, facilitated by McGillis faculty with assistance from Aviary educators, and is open to both McGillis students and students from the community. For a full day of camp, enroll your child in both our AM and PM half-day camps. Lunch hour between camps for all day campers is staff monitored and does not require pick-up.

Registering for Summer Camp
- Registration fees include snack, camp materials and one 2013 camp shirt.
- Space is limited to 15 participants per camp.
- Child must be enrolled in the camp grade level that he or she is entering in Fall 2013.
- After registering, you will receive a confirmation letter or e-mail of camp safety and legal forms. Completed forms must be provided to the camp facilitators on the first day of camp.

Cancellation Policy
In the event that your child cannot attend the camp he/she is registered for, a 75% refund will be given provided that you give Tracy Aviary at least two weeks notice prior to the start date of the camp your child is registered for. A refund will not be given if cancellation is made less than two weeks prior to the camp. If Tracy Aviary must cancel a camp, registrants will be notified no less than the Monday before the day of camp and will be granted either a full refund or the option to enroll in future camps.
Arrival and Pick-Up
AM Sessions
If not enrolled in Before Care, children must be dropped off between 8:45am and 9:00am. At no time may any child be left unattended. Children must be picked up promptly at 12pm if not attending the PM camp session.
PM Sessions
Children must be dropped off between 12:45 and 1pm. At no time may any child be left unattended. If not enrolled in After Care, children must be picked up promptly at 4pm.
All Day Campers
If not enrolled in Before Care, children must be dropped off between 8:45am and 9:00am. At no time may any child be left unattended. Lunch hour from 12pm-1pm is staff monitored and campers do not need to be picked up during this time. If not enrolled in After Care, children must be picked up promptly at 4pm.
Camp Before and After Care
Campers enrolled in these programs will spend an hour at the beginning/end of each camp day under the supervision of our camp staff, providing parents with additional pick-up/drop-off flexibility. Before Care campers must be dropped off promptly at 8:00am. After Care campers must be picked up promptly at 5:00pm.
Before/After Care sessions are available in week-long packages of $25 each.

After Care: 4:00pm-5:00pm
Lunch and Snacks
Campers will enjoy a supervised lunch break between 12pm and 1pm. Campers must bring their own lunch. A snack is provided for each AM and PM camp session. Dietary restrictions are observed, however for campers with extensive food allergies, bringing a snack is suggested.
